Kleidersammlungen in Georgien erfolgreich

Bis vor wenigen Jahren versorgte die Caritas Georgien Bedürftige mit Kleiderspenden vor allem aus Italien und Deutschland. Da aber viele Organisationen in Westeuropa aus verschiedenen Gründen die direkten Kleiderspenden reduzierten oder ganz eingestellt haben, war die Caritas Georgien nicht mehr in der Lage, die Menschen angemessen mit Kleidung zu versorgen.

Im Rahmen eines freiwilligen Einsatzes einer Mitarbeiterin der Caritas Rottenburg-Stuttgart entstand die Idee, ein System für eine Kleidersammlung vor Ort zu etablieren. Nachdem erste Prüfungen ein großes Potential vermuten ließen, bat die Caritas die Aktion Hoffnung um eine fachliche und finanzielle Unterstützung.

In zwei mehrtägigen Workshops in Tbillisi und bei einer Delegationsreise in die Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart konnten Know-how vermittelt und viele Hinweise gegeben werden, wie eine Sammlung und Sortierung etabliert werden könnte. Der Aufbau der Sammlung, die Anschaffung von Containern und die Delegationsreise wurde von der Aktion Hoffnung finanziell unterstützt.

Anfang März 2021 berichtete die Caritas Georgien, dass die Etablierung geglückt ist und trotz der Corona-Pandemie eine Versorgung von Bedürftigen mit Kleidung sichergestellt werden kann. Das Sammelergebnis war im Jahr 2020 in etwa gleich hoch wie im Vorjahr, obwohl einige Container über Monate hinweg aufgrund des Lockdowns in Georgien nicht erreichbar waren, weil sie z.B. in einer Shopping Mall oder in Restaurants stehen. Sehr viele Spenden gehen in einem neu aufgestellten Container an der Hauptgeschäftsstelle der Caritas ein, so dass die Ausfälle in den anderen Containern kompensiert werden konnten.

Dieses Zwischenergebnis zeigt der Caritas Georgien, dass sie auf einem richtigen Weg ist. Die Mitarbeiter:innen sind sich sicher, dass die Sammelmengen wieder deutlich steigen, wenn die Beschränkungen aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie zurückgenommen werden. Es sind die Aufstellungen von neuen Containern sowie weitere PR-Maßnahmen geplant, um die Bekanntheit der Kleidersammlungen weiter zu erhöhen. Mittelfristig ist auch die Etablierung von Second Hand Shops eine denkbare Perspektive.

Clothes boxes project is implemented in Caritas Georgia for several years. It has started well and was gaining speed and growing impressively and even unexpectedly throughout the years. In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the project as well as it had influenced the whole world.

Starting with March 2020, harsh restrictions were accepted in Georgia, which have stopped the implementation of the project for few months. Thus, no matter of closed shopping malls and schools, where clothes boxes were situated, people continued bringing clothes to Caritas Center.

In June 2020 the restrictions were partly canceled, so the clothes boxes situated in the public spaces started working. In Autumn the collection of the clothes became very active again. At the end of September one additional box was installed in the main office of Caritas Georgia, which appeared to be very successful location.

It is important to underline, that no matter of such restrictions and breaks in the project, the amount of the clothes collected in 2020 was almost the same as in previous year, which means, that if the pandemic would not take place, the amount would be much greater, than in previous years. Moreover, due to the fact, that the massive distribution of the clothes was canceled during the whole 2020 (except some urgent cases), no advertisement was made locally, which if implemented, also could raise amount of collected clothes.

In 2021 the pandemicrestrictions are being slowly canceled, so Caritas Georgia is looking forward to turn back to normal regime after 1^st of April 2021. For this moment, volunteers have been included in the sorting process again and distribution of clothes to socially disadvantaged families is planned to start in April.

As soon as distribution will start, Caritas will put new efforts in the advertisement of the project, conducting public events and will add new box/es for collection. It is expected to have good and fast influence on the amount of collected clothes and awareness of the society.

As a conclusion, the project of “clothes boxes” was successful even during pandemic and is expected to give great results in closest future.
